Lucia Event

Last week I went to Lund to an event of AEGEE. It is funny that protestants do not celebrate any saints, but here in Sweden they keep celebrating Sta Lucia.

First of all, I would like to comment my freaky first experience with swedish train service. Because of the rain, the first kilometers of rails heading south from Göteborg were flooded, and so it was suppossed we will have to get a bus until another station, and then get on the train. But there was a crash in the Highway, because of the rain, and thus they decided to send us, by train, heading east, and then head towards Lund. BUT, again because of the rain (did I ever tell you it rains a lot in this country?) a bridge collapsed, and the trains couldn't go through. So we had to wait for a bus that took us to another station, where we got a train that took us to Alvesta, and there we were so late that we lost the connection and we had to wait for another fucking bus that took us to Lund. In total, around 10 fucking hours for a 3 hour-journey.
A lot of swedish people has sworn me that this kind of things are very rare, but,... next time I'll think about renting a car.

Ok, so, I arrived to Lund sort of 7 hours later than expected, at 330, and went rightly to bed. The first day, Tuesday, we went to Malmo (that is very close).

There we did a little sightseeing, and then we went to the sauna,... where we get to swimm in the Baltic!! In december!! Back in Lund, we went to drink glögg (hot wine with spicies) at the University, and then we went to a Christmas dinner and a party in a 'Nation'.
You must consider that despite the exams and all that crap, there are a lot of people that are going back home for good after this semester, so now there are a lot of Christmas parties, and goodbye parties. Is not like we need excuses to party, anyway, but...
In Lund, besides being member of the Student Union, it is compulsory to all students to be member of a 'Nation', that are sort of the 'brotherhoods' in the USA. Bad news is this parties close at 200.

Wednesday, Sta Lucia, we did some sightseeing in Lund, and then we went to a Sta Lucia concert. There are many, all around the city. According to the tradition, they dress in white and they carry candles because this is the longest night of the year and they want to take out the darkness.

Afterwards we had some typical swedish dinner, some typical swedish christmas sweets... and some party!!

There were a couple of really great days, but then it was time to come back to our duties,... and our fucking exams!

La semana pasada fui a Lund a un evento de AEGEE. Es gracioso que los protestantes no celebren ningún santo, pero aquí en Suecia sigan celebrando Santa Lucia.

Antes de nada, me gustaría comentar algo acerca de mi escalofriante primer experiencia con los trenes suecos (ya sabeis que la primera vez siempre duele).
A causa de la lluvia, los primeros km de vías en dirección sur partiendo de Göteborg estaban inundados, así que se supone que teníamos que ir en bus hasta otra estación, para poder coger allí el tren. Pero, a causa de la lluvia también, hubo un accidente en la autopista, así que decidieron ponernos en un tren en dirección este, para luego cambiar de tren en otra estación, dirección Lund. PERO, de nuevo a causa de la lluvia (alguna vez os he dicho que en este país llueve mucho?), había nosequé problemas en un puente ('collapsed' tiene un significado bastante amplio), así que tuvimos que esperar un bus que nos llevara a otra estación para poder coger el tren... pero ese tren llego tan tarde a Alvesta que perdimos la conexión, así que hubo que esperar otra vez para que otro bus nos llevara a Lund. Total, unas 10 horas para un viaje de 3.
Un montón de suecos me han jurado que esta clase de cosas no pasan nunca, pero... la próxima vez me pensaré el alquilar un coche.

Bueno, el tema es que llegué a Lund unas 7 horas más tarde de lo previsto, a eso de las 330, así que directo a la cama. El primer día, el martes, nos fuimos a hacer turismo a Malmo (que está muy cerca). Aparte de el típico city-tour, fuimos a una sauna,... y nos bañamos en el Báltico! En diciembre!!

De nuevo en Lund, fuimos a beber glögg (vino caliente con especias) a la Universidad, y después a una cena de Navidad y una fiesta en una 'Nation'. Hay que tener en cuenta que muchos estudiantes se vuelven a sus países para siempre después de este cuatrimestre, así que ahora, a pesar de los exámenes, hay muchas cenas de Navidad, muchas despedidas,... Tampoco es que necesitemos mucha excusa para irnos de fiesta, pero...
En Lund, además de ser miembro de la Student Union, es obligatorio ser miembro de una 'Nation', que vienen a ser una versión light de las 'hermandades' en los USA. La mala noticia es que estas fiestas cierran a las 200.

Miércoles, Sta Lucía, hicimos un poco de turismo por Lund y fuimos a un concierto de Santa Lucía. Hay varios, en distintos sitios (Universidad, Iglesias,...). Siguiendo la tradición, van todos vestidos de blanco, con velas para apartar la oscuridad en la noche más larga del año. Habéis visto alguna vez un coro de ángeles? Pues...

Después, tuvimos una típica cena sueca, con típicos postres navideños suecos, y... fiesta! En la fiesta tuvimos la oportunidad de encontrar alguna de estas 'Lucías', más pedo que Alfredo (también había una 'Papanoela' muuy tajada)

Un par de días geniales, pero, como siempre, toca vuelta a la dura realidad, los estudios y los putos exámenes!!
